Ms. Audrey E. Coaxum spent her foundational years in Beaufort, South Carolina. She comes from a family that believes in the value of education. Audrey is the older of two daughters born to lifetime educators who were lovers of science and obtained advanced degrees in math and chemistry. This foundation encouraged Audrey to embrace academic excellence early in life. As a result, she won many academic honors and awards. She was a part of the first Gifted and Talented program developed in Beaufort County and graduated at the top of her class. These achievements afforded her the opportunity to receive many scholarships and be recruited for entrance into many institutions of higher learning. She decided to follow in her parents’ footsteps and major in science. Audrey chose to attend Prairie View A&M University and be a part of the inaugural class of the Benjamin Banneker Honors College which was designed to put individuals on track for seeking a career in healthcare or engineering. In turn, Audrey was awarded a full four-year academic scholarship. She graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.
Ms. Coaxum has always had a passion for wanting to help others. She has focused her energy on a career in healthcare. Audrey’s upbringing and education have groomed her to be a leader. She is a hands-on specialist with more than thirty years of well-rounded experience involving many facets of operations in the healthcare industry. Professionally, she has served as a C-suite executive for many organizations (i.e., private practices, hospitals, health systems and insurance companies). Audrey has championed numerous initiatives with documented success in strategic planning, efficient management, achieving measurable performance goals and the application of diverse methods that are geared towards eliminating waste and revenue losses. Audrey has a sterling reputation across the healthcare community as a customer-service oriented problem solver and trusted advisor.
She is a consultant and has honed her skills to concentrate on various aspects of compliance that streamline operations and enhance profitability without compromising quality of care. She has served on various healthcare boards and committees. She has earned several honors and awards. Audrey has never forgotten the importance of education and maintains many healthcare certifications. Motivated by her desire for change and to overcome challenges facing today’s medical practices, she spearheads activities related to leadership development, medical billing and coding, reimbursement and comprehensive clinical and business operations. Audrey is a certified healthcare instructor who travels across the country speaking at conferences and providing education and training to physicians, healthcare professionals, administrators and supporting staff.
Not only is Audrey a leader professionally, she is also a leader in her community. She is a go-getter and loves God. She believes in giving back to Him, the talents and gifts that He has blessed her with. She can never say “no” when it comes to serving God and is an active member of Windsor Village United Methodist Church. She serves as a volunteer in efforts to feed the hungry, provide access to healthcare and tutor. Audrey is a member of the Suburban Houston Fort-Bend Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and serves on many committees including being the chair of the Scholarship Committee. As an alumnus of the Presidential Classroom and Girls State, she rounds out her civic duties by serving on the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary.
When she is not working at her craft or serving in her community, Audrey spends time with her family and close friends. She enjoys playing the piano, board games, bowling, traveling and exercising. For the last eight years, she has decided to enhance her volunteer efforts by fusing health and wellness and community service by participating in fun runs and half marathon events.
